Yogyakarta – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk are exploring the strengthening of strategic collaboration in the development of the artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem and digital transformation. The coordination, held on Friday, September 19, 2025, was attended by key representatives from both parties, including Fauzan Feisal from Telkom Indonesia and UGM’s Vice Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc.
In the meeting, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk presented the “Center of Excellence AI” initiative, which includes “AI Campus” for research and talent collaboration, “AI Playground” as an ideation platform, “AI Connect” through programs such as IndigoHub, and “AI Hub” for the downstreaming of research ready for commercialization. “We see great potential in synergy with Universitas Gadjah Mada to accelerate AI development in Indonesia,” said Fauzan Feisal.
Meanwhile, Universitas Gadjah Mada, through Danang Sri Hadmoko, emphasized that the collaboration will focus on government priority programs, including energy, healthcare, climate, education, SDGs, social policy, as well as industry and business, including regulatory and technological aspects. Several specific projects discussed include the development of AI-based Smart Ventilators, cybersecurity, and the establishment of an Innovation Project Management Office (IPMO).
This collaboration will also cover AI talent development through the “AI for Dummies” curriculum and CSR programs with IBM, as well as the utilization of the UGM Online platform for joint training. Plans for research downstreaming and the “Meet The Investor” program at the Gelanggang Inovasi dan Kreativitas (GIK) UGM are also key parts of this collaboration agenda.
As a follow-up, Universitas Gadjah Mada and PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk will hold an AI event at GIK on September 24, followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) one week later. This collaboration is expected to produce concrete innovations and outstanding talents that will drive AI advancement and digital transformation across various strategic national sectors.
