Digital Sibling AI Framework

YOGYAKARTA – A significant breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence is being developed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Ridi Ferdiana, S.T., M.T., IPM., a researcher from Universitas Gadjah Mada. He leads the research titled “Digital Sibling AI Framework” (DiSiAI), which aims to create digital replicas of humans, complete with the emotions, cognition, and behaviors of the original individuals. This innovative project, which began in 2023, has now entered the implementation stage, utilizing artificial intelligence and cloud-based cognitive services to process communication data.

The concept of Digital Sibling AI centers on building a digital platform that carefully documents a person’s communication patterns and personal characteristics. The goal is to produce a “digital twin” capable of interacting like that individual, including in emotional and cognitive aspects.

DiSiAI specifically uses AI technologies and cloud-based cognitive services to analyze communication data, both structured and unstructured, which then becomes the knowledge base for this “digital twin.” This digital replica is designed to communicate through various media such as voice, text, and visual formats. Furthermore, this “digital sibling” is expected to assist in decision-making and provide recommendations tailored to the personality of the replicated individual.

This internally funded research covers various cutting-edge topics such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), AI-based Internet of Things (IoT), as well as Machine Learning/Deep Learning in general. Currently, the documentation and design outputs of the project can be accessed through the link cloudex.ft.ugm.ac.id.

With the progress of the DiSiAI project, the potential applications of digital twin technology across various fields—from highly personalized assistants to simulations of complex interactions for training or research—are becoming increasingly promising. This research marks a significant step toward replicating human complexity in the digital domain, opening a new era of interaction between humans and AI.
